What is LAB-Physics? LAB-Physics is a powerful online inquiry-based learning environment designed to advance student conceptual learning in physics. We have developed a variety of science learning tools that enable student s and faculty to better teach and learn laboratory-based subject matter online, conveniently — anytime, anywhere.

In the LAB*Physics virtual laboratories, students develop and test their own conceptual models against "real world" virtual models that behave according to the laws of physics. Students are guided in these investigations by a virtual guide agent, and collaborate with virtual peers. The integrated LAB-Physics tutor and lab environments interact transparently to provide feedback in response to student behavior.

Our inquiry-based courseware products are designed for learning. The courseware includes concept-based curriculum modules grounded in the latest physics education research results. System components include a standalone tutoring system, open-ended virtual laboratories, scientific instruments and data analysis tools, and an in-depth help application, as well as sophisticated course administration and quiz tools for faculty.

The virtual laboratory workspace contains a wide range of laboratory equipment and instruments such as timers, photogates, motion detectors, and force probes, the latter of which connect to real-time data logger software that produces working graphs. LAB-Physics permits students to conduct scientific investigations (and make mistakes) just as they might in any in situ lab.

The LAB-Physics Introductory Physics or College Physics courses provide a complete standalone laboratory-based online course. The depth of coverage equals that of a standard algebra-based introductory textbook, but with the advantage of virtual laboratories and inquiry-based instruction.

For in situ courses, choose the LAB-Physics Just-In-Time-Learning Tutorials, which can be used for pre-lecture or pre-lab activities, lecture demonstrations, remediation, problem-based learning, or off-site laboratory investigations.

LAB-Physics software runs on both Windows and Macintosh OSX platforms and includes a variety of student and faculty tools. The LAB-Physics hosted subscription service allows you immediate access to the self-paced physics tutorials and virtual laboratory environments.

What LAB-Physics is NOT: LAB-Physics is not a set of simulations nor a series of simulations with attached problems. LAB-Physics is not a textbook with animations or a drill and kill homework system. Nor is LAB-Physics a set of online lectures with graphics.
